Would You Rather Be Unique Or Be Different?

A Brand’s Guide to Being Unique

Uniqueness is such a problematic word at times. It gets needlessly thrown around, especially within marketing circles. That’s because when you’re looking to get the attention of potential customers, your business has to stand out.

To do so, it needs to craft an identity that helps differentiate it from the competition. Seems simple enough, until a business realizes that everyone else is spending time and money on building a “unique” brand. And while they all look different, a closer look at what they offer shows how obviously similar they all are.

One reason for this is due to the trends that often come up and force businesses to adapt. Taking on a more sociological perspective, we can observe how this plays out among subcultures. The Goth subculture, for example, is known for its dark fashion, chains, leather boots, and corpse-like makeup. Although there’s a disconnect between the Goth community and mainstream society, it still doesn’t explain why Goths are unique, considering the fact that they all dress alike and share common interests.

The same could also be said of businesses that rely too much on what others are doing. Imitation is a form of flattery, sure, but if you focus too much on replicating the strategies and gimmicks that your competitors apply, then it seems as if you don’t have a business at all. Even worse, you’d be turning off people who are sick of seeing the same old stuff from the businesses they encountered before.

Innovation and creativity are what matters in creating a brand that engages your audience and broadens your influence. Your uniqueness will depend largely on how you craft a strong online presence, so take your time and plan for something that’s fresh and, at the same time, highly useful for your market.

On the other hand, if you have ideas that need to be fleshed out but you’re not quite sure how to opt to get expert advice from a company that helps you resolve the common business issues you face.
